Things in Germany look pretty dire. Instead of vaccinations, they are doing tests. The people are not happy. Red tape, political chaos, and now the national soccer team stumbles and loses against a country none of us ever learned anything about in school. Simply because it didn’t exist. North Macedonia (not macadamia) formerly known as Macedonia is not exactly beloved by its Serbian and Greek neighbors. The guys to the North think it should be a province and the guys to the South claim the name Macedonia for themselves. They needed a little help.
That’s where Jogi Loew and his “Mannschaft” come into play. North Macedonia’s victory last night made them immortal. This country now really exists.
Since the German soccer team did a full 1080 and now claims to care about human rights and such the whole story makes sense. You don’t have to boycott a world cup that you don’t qualify for. Get it?
Apparently, not all is rotten in the state of Germany. They do have a heart for the little guys.
That’s it for world affairs today. Back to our local shlimazels…
What’s your level of compassion for Mr. Nawalny? He’s currently on a hunger strike in a prisoner camp aka gulag somewhere in Russia.
He was well taken care of in Germany and had top-notch medical support. He decided to return to Russia, knowing that he would get arrested right away. He also knows that Putin wants him dead.
Now he is complaining about getting woken up every hour and the lack of medical support. Apparently, his legs are numb and he might even face amputation. What was he expecting?
Putin is a ruthless murderer. If he wants you dead you don’t cruise into his hemisphere. This guy usually gets what he wants in his territory. He’s also not known to be the forgiving or compassionate kind.
There is a chance this guy will die in prison. He was certainly asking for trouble when he returned and can’t be surprised.
Is it worth it? That’s a question for future historians.
Being on the right side of history can feel rather dull when you’re 6 feet under or “enjoy” endless gulag treatment.
Some of us might have rather enjoyed the Black Forest a little bit longer.

Ever heard of SO2F2 aka Sulfuryl fluoride?
It’s 4000 times more harmful to the atmosphere than CO2.
Methane is 80x worse than CO2 (just for perspective).
Sulfuryl fluoride is used in Germany to fumigate trees that are bound for export. The Chinese don’t want tree-eating beetles with their wood from Germany.
The impact is worse than all the domestic flights in the country combined. All for selling a few dead trees…this is nuts.
Do you live in an area where lumber is being treated? There is a chance the fumigation is done with SO2F2. If you hear of this material being used anywhere near you ask them to stop. Now.
We can talk CO2 all day long and won’t get anywhere until we fry these fish.

A year ago…I had to cancel 2 spring skiing trips. One of them with my brother and his family and the other one with dear Boulder friends. I got one day of skiing on my season pass. One!
Fast forward to 2021:
I’ve done mostly nordic skiing so far since it is easier to keep a safe distance. But now I have 80% protection from new infections and protection from getting severely sick. And that means it’s time for spring skiing. I’ll still be careful but we’re going up tomorrow for 3 days on the slopes.
I feel grateful to all the people that worked towards getting us vaccinated and making this possible.
Now I just have to avoid these trees. I’ve still got some bruised ribs from a rather clumsy fall at my last skinny skiing outing. No need to double up on that.
Ok, I’ll translate…
First guy: “I bet you can’t turn around in the Suez Canal”.
Other guy: “Hold my beer…”
Pretty funny IMHO k

Knowing when your significant other needs a laugh…and then bringing it on…it’s a rather essential part of making a relationship last. If you get the Queen to crack up you’ve got what it takes.

Where are you now taking your out of town guest for a fine dining experience? It was one of the best ways to weird them out.
Except for the chlorine in the air causing all that lung damage. Small collateral damage. Still, well worth it.

A word on the soccer aka football “Super League” is it is folding only 48 hours after being announced.
1. At least 1/2 of the clubs participating are bankrupt. This would simply have been a bailout for guys that outspent other clubs with money they never had. Disgusting.
2. The initial silence of the players and coaches of the teams involved was rather sickening. They could have come out a little sooner and speak out against this – not just after the fans threatened them.
3. This failure merely prevents the absolute worst in the world of club soccer. It’s still a giant mercenary playground. The lack of integrity is appalling. I’m not a “fan”…just a skeptic that still enjoys the game and some of their characters that stick out as shining stars, just for doing the right thing.
4. The owners/presidents of these 12 clubs can go to hell.
Today we talk about a man that killed another man and was on camera doing so. He was found guilty of doing so. The killer was a police officer and the victim was of course George Floyd. It was a very cruel death. The fact that this verdict dominates our news should make us pause.
Unfortunately, we are still a very violent and racist society. We are also a society that is often unjust, often when our justice system is involved.
Today provides nothing but a small glimmer of hope. It doesn’t bring back any of the lives lost due to all the killings in America.
America is not more just due to this single sentencing. Most experts agree that we need comprehensive justice reform.
Beyond this, we have to look into becoming kinder to each other overall. We’d need a whole new collective mindset and leave our archaic ways behind.
That’s what comes up for me. This is not a day to celebrate anything. It’s another call to action.
Both arms are properly vaccinated now. I guess the legs are next. Does anyone have information on where and how to get this done?
These two empty lines on the vax card got to be filled. It’s got to be the legs.
Yes, there is also that :)
We’re just reaching the point where everyone in Colorado can get vaccinated. Just walk in and get your shot. Easy.
For anyone that chooses not to get vaccinated:
I’m not going to hang out with you and nor will many others…until you get er done.
I foresee most gatherings on my calendar to have a vaccination requirement. People that refuse to get vaccinated simply won’t be welcome. That’s a line I will hold for myself. It’s either me or them.
Sounds harsh? I think in the grand scheme of events it’s a little thing to ask and I’m all for putting pressure on people that refuse to do their part in this epic fight.

We’re still going strong with the sledding hill in front of the house. Just come on over. The hot chocolate stand across the street should open at 10.ll in front of the house. Just come on over. The hot chocolate stand across the street should open at 10.

Over 25,000 barrels of DDT were dumped just of the coast between Los Angeles and Santa Catalina Island. Whoever was involved in this is long gone. The dumping happened between the 1930s and 1970s.
Anyone want to do a little snorkeling and help with the cleanup? No one? That’s what I thought.
Fresh caught fish anyone? Maybe with a little Fukujima water on the side?
I think it’s already too late but we have to treat our oceans a little nicer. For now, I’d skip swimming in that toxic soup.
This will be an interesting little clean-up operation. And it will surely not be the last one.
